Congratulations Phi Mu Derby Days Champions

The tradition of Sigma Chi’s Derby Days began in the spring of 1933 at the Alpha Beta Chapter at the University of California-Berkley.  From there, it slowly started to make its way to our chapters all over the country.  During the 1960s, Derby Days began to take on a more philanthropic approach for which it is now known on many campuses.

As one of the most high profile events of our Fraternity, Derby Days affords us, the Theta Mu Chapter at Spring Hill College, the opportunity to bring honor and respect to Sigma Chi.  Similarly, it is an excellent time to promote our brotherhood, our spirit of community service, and a positive Greek image on Spring Hill’s campus.

There are two key components to the way our Chapter conducts Derby Days.  We understand that events should be both philanthropic and social in nature, not just one of these two.  We are proud to say that our Derby Days is centered on both of these essential elements.

Derby Days has grown to be the largest Greek event on this campus and a Spring Hill tradition.  It consistently raises a substantial amount of money for our philanthropies, the Children’s Miracle Network and Mobile’s St. Mary Home.  Through both solicited donations and our open  Saturday night party (Friday night is a closed “thank you party” for the Sorority and GDI teams), our Chapter usually raises a minimum of Five Thousand Dollars ($5,000).   In addition to raising a lot of money, the brothers and the four girl teams account for hundreds of hours of community service at St. Mary’s Home.

Over the past ten years, Sigma Chi Fraternity as a whole has raised and donated over $3.8 Million Dollars ($3,810,000) for the Children's Miracle Network.

Since Derby Days is an essential element to our identity on this campus, it is during this time that we have an opportunity to: help others, advance the interests and honor of our Fraternity, promote the spirit of brotherhood and Greek unity, improve relations with the campus and community, grow personally, meet new people and make new friends, and lastly, to get crunked.
