Frequently Asked Questions

for Freshmen

SAS Home Who will be my advisor? Your advisor will be a member of the faculty or Student Academic Services office. Your first advisor is also your freshman seminar instructor and this person will help you transition to college.  Eventually you will work with a new advisor in your chosen field of study.

What is Freshman Seminar? SAS 101 is a one-hour/one credit course designed as a continuation of orientation that will help guide your academic transition to Spring Hill College.

What if I can't decide on a major? That's okay; most college students change their mind anyway! Give yourself time to explore through the classes you take, the people you meet, and the opportunities for involvement on campus. Student Academic Services offers a career development course for sophomores who are still searching and individual appointments are also available with a career counselor.

What if I have problems with my classes? Talk to your advisor if you experience academic difficulties. The first semester is an adjustment period for most freshmen and you should take advantage of the many resources available. A tutoring schedule will be delivered to your mailbox at the beginning of each term and during freshman seminar you will learn time management skills and study strategies.

How can I find out about services for disabilities? Contact the coordinator for academic support services, 251-380-3470, for assistance. Click here for more information on services.
