Student research supervision:  Supervised one student in conducting a research project 

In conjunction with Dr. Royce Simpson, took 2 students to the Southeastern Psychological Association Conference in New Orleans;  both students presented research

Organized poster session and colloquium for senior research students 

Restructured PSY 451 Senior Research:  required students to write proposals for their independent research projects, submit the proposals to SHC's new Institutional Review Board for approval, and present their projects through a poster session and oral presentations open to the SHC community

Implemented the use of case studies in PSY 304 Developmental Psychology, PSY 102 General Psychology II, and PSY 351 Descriptive Research Methods

Restructured PSY 304 Developmental Psychology so students took a more active role in learning

Participated in the revision of the social science core curriculum

Helped revise the current curriculum in psychology:  wrote the proposal to require PSY 468 History and Systems for the psychology major

Assisted in the development of SHC's Institutional Review Board

Helped write a grant proposal for a National Conferences on Undergraduate Research/Lancy Foundation grant (not funded)

Collected and analyzed data for a flashbulb memory project:  involved collecting data regarding memories of events surrounding the 9/11/01 attacks

Began literature review for a joint project with Dr. Larry Hall that will investigate the role of incentives on the likelihood of individuals enlisting in the military

Continued to maintain the "PsyQuest" websites created as part of a grant that expired in 2002

Student research supervision:  Supervised  two students working on independent research projects -- one assisted in completing a project examining the flashbulb memories for the events of September 11, 2001, and presented the research at the Southeastern Psychological Association meeting;  the other student (1) assisted in the fall with collecting data that will be used for the purpose of examining the effects of attractiveness on perceived intelligence and (2) completed in the spring an independent research project entitled The Effects of Thin-Ideal Internalization on Spring Hill College Students' Body Image and Implicit Attitudes which will probably be presented next fall

In conjunction with Dr. Lisa Hager, took students to the Southeastern Psychological Association Conference in New Orleans

Assisted other faculty with statistical data analysis

Continued curriculum review for the psychology major and minor;  resulted in the deletion of PSY 102 General Psychology II, the restructuring of PSY 101 General Psychology I, and changes to the minor

Developed and analyzed a survey administered to psychology majors, created an exit exam given to all senior psychology majors, and analyzed exit exam and ETS exam results

Participated in the Teagle-funded planning and establishment of an undergraduate research program:  collected data from peer schools regarding their undergraduate research programs; also involved visiting Birmingham Southern and Samford as well as talking to several other schools about the most important components in establishing an undergraduate research program
