Applied for a National Endowment for the Humanities Summer Seminar on Leibniz;  was selected as an alternate so will not be able to attend

Worked with Women's Studies group to co-sponsor an art exhibit at the Eichold Gallery

Better incorporated service learning into ethics course by modifying syllabus and assignments to reflect a strong commitment to service learning

Significantly revised logic course and taught it in the wireless classroom:  changed texts and modified the semester project assignment to include the answering of specific questions

Used ERes more effectively this year:  posted information students received in class (thus eliminating the need to bring additional copies to later classes for students who were absent) as well as changes to assignments

Continued learning about and experimenting with new teaching methods and techniques

With Dr. Jo Forstrom's assistance, submitted and was awarded a summer grant for a Philosophy Department retreat at which the department will review its curriculum for the core and for the major with the aim of providing ways to give students a more coherent educational experience 

Taught PHL 301 Intermediate Logic in the wireless classroom, using a challenging computer-based logic program called Symlog and the text Logic with Symlog 

Prepared PowerPoint presentations for all lectures in the graduate liberal arts course LIS 501 Classical Antiquity;  added new material on Virgil's Aeneid and Stoicism and Skepticism

Faculty advisor for the Andrew W. Mellon Fellowships in Humanistic Studies

Invited to attend the 14th International Conference on Patristic Studies in Oxford, England, in August 2003;  will deliver a paper entitled "The Voice and the Word:  Augustine's Catechumenate in the Light of the Newly Discovered Dolbeau Sermons"

Reviewed a 50-page essay, "Syncretism, Demonology, and the Holy Man in Late Antique Egypt," for the Journal of Early Christian Studies 

Revised the undergraduate "Christian Mysticism" course for graduate level:  revised several lectures to deepen and broaden their scope and to update things in light of new publications

Coordinated the 2003 Catholic Youth Seminar during Father Chris Viscardi's sabbatical

Restructured graduate courses:  began using a workshop pedagogical model in which lectures are frequently interspersed with small group discussions and projects

Developed new graduate course:  THL 529 Reconciliation

Revised THL 350 Catholic Social Thought:  added lectures that provided guidance on each document and increased the number of papers required 

Continued work on internet home page and ERes sites in order to keep them up to date and thus make them more useful tools for students

Worked with Dr. Stephanie Girard to complete the proposal for a writing center at SHC
