• Jesuit Communications Conference, AJCU annual meeting, Scranton, Pennsylvania
  Presentation:  “Reshaping the Jesuit Communication Curriculum to Reflect the Digital Revolution”

• Auburn University two-day workshop on advanced web design techniques including streaming video and audio techniques

Wrote scripts for two 30-second public service announcements for Catholic Charities;  will produce them in summer or fall

Shot film footage of the 2001 Senior Bowl;  brought along six video students to help and observe work on the field

Read and critiqued four feature-length screenplays by different authors

Continued to videotape and edit weekly the Mass for Shut-Ins, a half-hour program on Sunday mornings on WPMI

Black and white silver prints of midtown Mobile on display at Midtown Café at the Loop

Judge for Camera South’s annual photography exhibition

Set up faculty web site; used it to post class materials and instructions, give assignments, and profile students’ photo work

Works in progress:

• Continuing to work on second feature-length screenplay begun two years ago

• Shooting photographs for October 2001 faculty exhibition

Submitted history of the early days of the New York Enquirer to a regional conference of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication;  not accepted – will try again

• Refining Ph.D. dissertation (on the history of tabloid journalism) for publication

FINE AND PERFORMING ARTS

Ruth Belasco

Lectures/presentations given:

• Lecture on Spanish art in Father Rodriguez’s Advanced Spanish Culture class

Developed Senior Seminar for Graphic Design major

Completed several paintings

Worked on drawings, especially a series to be used as examples for beginning drawing students

Worked on a plan for a beginning drawing text

Maintained association with CAA (College Art Association) and the Mobile Museum of Art

Worked on graphic design web page and departmental web page

Used faculty web page, assigned more Internet work to students, and used Internet as a communication tool with students

Wrote and submitted proposal for support in beginning the work of developing a digital imagery collection (not funded)

• Working on ongoing series of paintings

• Working on art piece for Mobile’s Tricentennial

Steve Campbell, S.J.

Directed the plays The Rimers of Eldritch by Lanford Wilson and The White Devil by John Webster

Designed posters for exhibits in Eichold Gallery and for performances in Arlene Mitchell Theater and Stewartfield

Designed flyer for Catholic Youth 2000 Seminar

Directed six-week performance workshop in movement and improvisation

Worked with Wanda Sullivan on Eichold Gallery exhibits to establish the Gallery as a significant place in the community for contemporary art;  received excellent publicity from the Mobile Register for nearly every exhibit

Works in progress:

• Adaptations of Madeleine L’Engle’s A Wrinkle in Time and Virginia Woolf’s The Waves

• Revision of dissertation for possible publication

• Translation of contemporary French performance texts

• Organizing performance workshop for local church group
