| Welcome to the Spring Hill College Library and Information Services website. Spring Hill College opened a new 71,000 square foot state-of-the-art library in the summer of 2004. The Marnie and John Burke Memorial Library is named in recognition of the parents of John Burke, class of '63, and his brother Kevin Burke, class of '66, whose generous contributions have made the library possible. The Library houses nearly 200,000 volumes, and other materials that support the educational and research mission of the school. Also housed in the Library are Archives and Special Collections, Administrative Information Services and the Agnes Williams Faculty Development Center. | Library Services | ||
| In addition to the collection held in the Burke Library and in the Education Library, the Library provides access through its Web-based information system electronic databases, hundreds of videos, and thousands of full-text academic and scholarly electronic books and journals. | - Circulation | ||
Students may borrow books from from the Burke Library or the Education Library with their valid SHC ID cards. Books circulate for two or four weeks with some exceptions. For detailed information about circulation services see the Library's policy page: Borrowing Library Materials. |

- Reserves |
||
At the request of faculty, items are placed on reserve for students use. Books and other printed materials are held in the Reserve Stacks at the Circulation Desk. Digital Reserves are available to validated users through the library's website. Link to Reserves |

- Reference |
||
The Reference Desk is located on the main floor of the Library. Reference Desk staff will assist you in the use of the catalog and databases. For in-depth consultation, an appointment may be made with a subject specialist. Staff will direct you to the appropriate person. |
||
- Inter-Library Loan (ILL) |
||
Spring Hill College students may request books or journal articles not available at SHC through Inter-Library Loan, using the online request form on the library website. |
||
- Access to Electronic Resources |
||
Access to licensed electronic resources is restricted to current Spring Hill College students, staff, and faculty. Most of the electronic resources are available from any computer workstation on campus, or through a proxy server if off campus. - Online Catalog |
||
The online catalog, available via the web, provides information on the book and print journal holdings of Spring Hill College. Reference staff will gladly assist you in learning to use this important research tool. |

- Photocopying/Printing/ Fax |
||
Coin/card-operated photocopy machines and networked printers are located in the photocopy room on each floor of the Library. A fax machine is available at the Circulation desk for the convenience of the Library users. |
||
- Faculty Copy Service |
||
The Library provides a copy service for faculty to obtain articles from journals owned by the Burke Library (i.e., NOT Interlibrary Loan articles) for research or classes. The cost of this copying service is $3.00 per article. Articles and other items can be requested using the Library's website. |
||
- Library Instruction and Workshops |
||
Members of the Spring Hill College community may learn more about the Library, its resources , and how to use them by arranging for a consultation with a librarian. They may also use self-guided tutorials and resource guides available upon request and can be tailored to the needs of any SHC class or faculty-student group. |
||
Information Technology Services |
||
Information Technology Services (ITS), located in The Burke Library, provides a wide range of services from support for the college's technology infrastructure through educational technology, Instruction and Help Desk services to students and faculty. |
||
- The ITS Help Desk |
||
Located on the main floor near the Circulation Desk, the ITS Help Desk is staffed by both professional and student technology assistants. Instructions for accessing campus technology resources, as well as anti virus software, may be picked up at the ITS Help Desk. |
||
- Multimedia Equipment and Laptops |
||
Spring Hill College students, faculty and staff may check out laptop personal computers and multimedia equipment from the ITS Help Desk for use within the Library. Available equipment includes televisions, VCR and DVD players, and projectors. |
||
- Connecting to Networked Services |
||
Students, faculty and staff may use their own laptops to access network services via the hundreds of data ports available throughout the building. Various areas of the campus, including the library and the Eisele Outdoor Learning Center, are wireless enabled. |
||
Administration Information Services |
||
The Burke Library is also home to Administrative Information Services. Located on the second floor, AIS is responsible for maintenance and development of the college's administration management systems. |
||
The Agnes Williams Faculty Development Services |
||
The Agnes Williams Faculty Development Center is located on the main floor of Burke Library. Books, periodicals and videos are available in the Center's Reading Area. Available equipment includes personal and MacIntosh computers , scanners, and a full suite of software appropriate to faculty development activities. Faulty Development Center staff, reference Librarians and ITs Staff are available for consultation. |
