Navigation Tools
From the Start Page, you should be familiar with the distinct "sections" of a catalog page.
Section 1 was the root toolbar, which appears at the top and bottom of each page.

Byrne Library Logo: is hyperlinked to the library's home page.
Catalog: brings you to the start page of the on-line catalog
Libraries: is a list of links to a select list of other libraries or information sites that can be reached via the web. Note: a more complete list is found on the library's web page at http://camellia.shc.edu/elibrary.htm
Reserves: provides a link to the materials on reserve in the library. Reserves may be searched by instructor, course number or course name.
Information: provides links to information about the library and about your account. Library information includes hours, new books added to the collection this semester, etc.. Personal information includes books you currently have charged to your account and any bills or fines that may be attached to your account.
Section 2 was a set of navigation buttons. The picture below is taken from a "results" screen, which has more buttons than most.

Go Back: is supposed to take you to your previous search or "state". Go Back is supposed to replace the browser's Back button. Go Back actually returns you to your previous "state", which is the last command or search or search results you executed. The difference between the two is subtle. While Go Back is recommended, your browser's Back may still work for you.
Limit Search: takes you to the bottom of your search results screen. There you will find the options to enter new search terms or to limit your search by categories such as item type, publication year, location, etc..
New Search: takes you back to the Start Page, which includes the options of changing your type of search--Quick, Complex or Call Number Browse.
Backwards, Forward: scroll through a list of search results.
Note: When you are at the beginning or end of a list, or all search results are displayed on one screen, Backwards or Forward may be grey, indicating the buttons do not function.
Jump: used in conjunction with search results, Jump allows you to skip ahead or back several records (e.g. go from record display 21-40 ahead to record 112).
Cross Reference: in a general search like "Education", Cross Reference will offer alternative terms, either broader, narrower or related to the topic entered.
Print: will allow you to view and print or e-mail selected results.
Advanced users may want to "capture" the page using their browser's save button. However, save will attempt to include images such as the school logo and the navigation buttons as well as text content. A better approach might be to "cut and paste" from a "view results" page.
Exit: will end your session in the catalog and redirect you to the library's home page.
Note: once your session is ended, you cannot jump back into the catalog. Instead you must establish a new session, losing your previous search results.
